KNOWLEDGE TEST

DOL‑Approved Knowledge Testing

Your permit starts here. This is the official Washington State Knowledge Test — fast, clear, and designed to check your understanding of driving laws, road signs, and safe‑driving essentials. It’s multiple‑choice, based on the Washington Driver Guide, and required for your learner’s permit or license.

We test daily at 12:00 PM & 5pm‍, ‍Saturdays at 10:00 AM. Walk‑ins welcome. Instant results. Same‑day retakes may be available if the schedule allows.

To test, you must be able to log into your License eXpress account and have your WDL number ready. Applicants must have a License eXpress account and be able to log in at the time of testing. Please bring one of the following acceptable forms of ID (required by the Washington State Department of Licensing): You must also have a WDL# with you. You can get a WDL# after creating a License Express account.

  • Washington State ID card

  • Washington State Driver License (expired)

  • Out‑of‑state ID or Driver License

  • Passport or Passport Card

  • Permanent Resident Card

  • Military ID

  • Tribal ID

  • School ID (with photo) with Non-Photo Permit

  • Government‑issued photo ID

Digital copies, photos, or screenshots of ID are NOT accepted. You must present the physical ID at the time of testing.

DRIVE TEST

The Washington State drive test measures how safely and confidently you can handle real‑world driving. You’ll be evaluated on smooth control, awareness, decision‑making, and the core skills every driver needs.

To test, you must bring the correct documents and arrive prepared. If you’re required to use an Ignition Interlock Device, you’ll need to test in your own IID‑equipped vehicle.

DRIVE TEST IN CUSTOMER CAR

The drive test evaluates your ability to operate a vehicle safely and legally under real road conditions. A valid physical photo ID is required, and you must arrive early and prepared. If you are required to drive with an Ignition Interlock Device, you must test in your own vehicle.
